A timber solution was needed for this L shaped extension which was all Glass to face the lake view. Glulam Posts to the front of the structure along with Atek Beams and Valleys make up the main structure, planed 9 x 2 rafters making up the infill and birch ply wood for the decorative roof covering.

All connections and steel brackets had to be concealed these were designed, supplied and erected by Atek.

Through our haulage partners we can deliver a variety of non standard length Glulam Beams on over-sized trailers specially equipped for transportation of long length uniquely shaped beams.

The beams for this project were not only 20m in length but had been designed with a double curve to imitate wave movements in the Ballycastle marina.

Finished building with 18m beams installed. We have also included some pics from inside showing the double curves.

On this project the Glulam just sat into the block-work and were secured with steel angle brackets

The tips of the beams protrude to the external of the building at the eaves. The Insulated roof panel is connected directly to the top of the Glulam.

Atek Glulam beams were used throughout this project as structural roof members. Full lorry loads of Atek Beams arrived on site and were hoisted into position by the main contractor.

The use of timber in such buildings is becoming ever more common as emphasis is on light and space in the classroom environment. Pictures not great on this one but we will follow with more on job completion

Atek Glulam curved roof and decking supplied  designed and installed by our Team.

Late in 2009 we started working on this project getting designs and ideas on the table for the scheme engineers. After very little time we had the design finalised and proceed to manufacture the curved Glulams for the main spine of the roof for Delivery early Feb 2010.  18.5m Curved Atek Beams arriving on site and stacking for installation

The 18 Curved Atek beams were used as an alternative to curved steel sections. Our engineer carried out the relevant static calculations for these beams and offered the client the very best timber solution which was economical compared to similar structural materials.

 We sent the beams so site with the birds mouth already cut in as to limit the time spent on the installation. This curved roof done in timber as apposed to steel can be left exposed inside adding to the interior of the house. 

The project was constructed by Tyrone Timberframes in Omagh.

Over 30m3 of Atek Beams was  used in this job which was completed by Clarke LTD. In Mid 2009.

The Beams were supplied in long length and re-worked by Clarke’s timber frame section to form the Gull-wing roof sections. Atek Beams were used for the rafters, main structural spine and the circular columns. All the metal brackets were by Clarke LTD.

The concept of  light and space inside the building with clear spans and open spaces is enhanced by the use of Atek Glulam Beams making this living space a very pleasant one.

Working closely with the Architect and Engineers the project was realised an a very short period of time and was on site less than 5 weeks after order. The contractor was very happy with the quality of the craftsmanship and the installation went without a hitch.

The main contractor had to sling the trusses onto previously positioned posts like in the pictures above. When all the trusses were in position the purlins were attached to finish.

Teagasc college in Piltown Co. Kilkenny designed by C. J Falconer & Associates Chartered Architects & Planning Consultanta St. Patricks House, Newtown, Waterford, Ireland. Large 240 x 320 Atek Glulam Beams we’re used as the rafters and 240 x 560 Atek Beams were as valley beams. Fittings were an integral part of this job we manufactured these in tandum with the  beams. Engineering on the beams and fittings was carried out by Malone O’Regan Consulting Engineers, St. Catherine’s House, Catherine Street, Waterford, Ireland. The images below show the beams in place .
